Chen Cheng-hsun was born in Chun-hua, the
south part of Taiwan, In 1983, he attended to The National
Madrid Ceramic School in Spain, continuing his study in modern
ceramic. In the 1980s he received awards and acclaim.
Chen Cheng-hsun presents the extremely simple geometric forms
full of dyramics in clay. His works are profound, peaceful and
full of oriental mysteries. The geometric form possesses
powerful sense of existence, in which the pierced rectangular
and the incision of life after being intruded by matter, The
geometric forms show the power of transformation when two
dimensions meet; while forms of three dimensions explain better
the infinite peace after different kinds of matter clashes. The
existence of matter transforms into everything of cosmology and
humanity. The process of the creation of the artist is a process
from the love of "Nature" to the exploration of "Nature", and
then to the exploration of " Man", He thinks man must understand
who and who he is and must embrace the society. Although he
lives an earthly life , he is to return to the cosmos, which is
the true meaning of life.
After the high firing process, clay and wood return to their
essence, triumph with the beauty in eternal life. This eternity
is not addressing on permanence or stability, but the sense of
constantness kept in the interminable exchange of time and
space. In his work, one would naturally feel the metaphysical
understanding about life in true presence of Oriental
aesthetics.
Over more than ten years of continuous endeavor, he has
always been building the conversation in between contemporary
culture and the nature, through which to reveal his idea about
cosmology and coessential humanity. His search leads to the
spiritual resonance that genuinely blends with breath and
meditation. The touch of fire, leaves the unique trace and the
texture on his big-scaled sculptural work, vibrating the
unleashed energy into the environment that deeply moves the
viewer. This is the best proof of his insistence on the endless
invention of art making.
