ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Translating
Ideas into Ceramics
My vessel forms have evolved, firstly,
as a direct response to the material, especially porcelain
that seems to suit my "perfectionist" nature and, secondly,
through my preference for simplicity and crisp, clear
profile. The surface treatments involving carving, incising
and piercing, come from a mixture of physical expression and
emotional experiences. It is not easy to distinguish between
them. I enjoy the tactile sensation of cutting into the
surface of leatherhard porcelain and find it quite
seductive, but the marks so made come from the subconscious
fusion of those previously mentioned sources rather than
directly from drawings or photographs. |
