Technical statement
Ceramics are normally
coloured with the help of glazes or slips, In my
view, however, only a very restricted range of
colour and texture can be achieved with these
conventional techniques. Ceramic glazes cannot
produce such vivid colours as bright red , orange or
purple, I have developed a special technique for
colouring the surface of my pieces. The surface of
my objects consists of several layers of pure
pigment, which are mixed with fine sand and fixed
onto the clay by means of synthetic resin.
The objects are sculptured from different hand-thrown and
hand formed parts, After firing in an electric kiln,
1250℃, the ceramic elements are
joined and glued together. The glued areas are
smoothed with two component artificial marble
fillers.
The work is colored from inside to outside little by little.
The coloured fine sand will joint the parts
completely.
The "Fossil Forms" are based on a sort of spiral shale. I
would first throw a wet clay cylinder, then wind
some rope around is and push the clay with my hands
from the inside towards the outside. The next stage
would be to cut out the bottom of the cylinder and
put the spiral-shaped object down sideways, which
transformed the original pot or vase into a
sculptural form...
I would subsequently remove the rope and spray water onto the
clay which would be still wet ,so that its surface
would erode and holes would appear where the clay
was thin .
Besides I design the sketches of huge monumental stylized
flowers on the computer.
The aim was to arrive at very straight and clear working
drawing.
Thanks to the 3D functions I obtained good visualisings of
different possibilities and combinations of the
cross-sections and side views of the object, in
order to look at it from all sides.
The monumental stylized flower" Reclining Flower" is built up
from various elements, which, after glazing, is
assembled with cement glue. The frame is made from
concrete steel armature. In order to accentuate the
ceramic petals and the parts they are framed with
black seam. |
